As the object moves toward the mirror the image moves toward the mirror. It is still minified, virtual, and reverted.

The left side rear view mirror on a car is a diverging mirror. The words printed on the mirror say that objects seen in the mirror are closer than they appear. The images are actually closer to the mirror than the object is, but images are smaller than they should be at that distance. When presented with this contradiction, our brain considers the size of the image instead of the image distance. Our brain resolves the contraction by telling us that the cars are farther away becuase they appear smaller than they should.
