Just as with the old standard, the lens thickness must be 3.0mm at the center thickness for plus powers of less than 3.00 diopters. Plus powers of greater than 3.00 must have a minimum center thickness of 2.5mm.

With the old standard, the only lens testing performed was the drop ball test, but because of today’s two levels of performance, this is now the minimum level. This is a big difference in today’s new standard. Lenses are now separated in two categories. For High Impact, you will note the testing requirements are much more stringent. With the old standard, there was no High Impact test for lenses, today’s Basic Impact was the only requirement for lenses.
