Taking this course is just the beginning of what can be a successful safety business. Many who have pursued the safety business have found it quite lucrative - but it takes work and persistence - not unlike any other business venture.

Though space can be a real issue, I've seen some practices set up displays to call attention to safety eyewear (rather than hide it under the counter in an old dusty box). That way, safety glasses can be sold not only for occupational but also for home safety use. The key is to always refer to safety glasses as their glasses for special use (like the second pair concept you are most likely familiar with).

Be prepared to offer suggestions to your customer encouraging the purchase of safety glasses. Safety glasses for home use can be offered with photo-gray lenses - suggest that the glasses can also be used if the patient loses his or her dress frames; yet, the glasses are also available for eye protection.

What is key here is that YOU are the professional! Your customer needs to feel secure in the fact that what you say is true. (For example - your advise that they should have an extra pair of glasses on hand in case they lose or break their new ones; stressing that their current prescription is important in their extra pair.) Take that position and run with it! You have an advantage here. Don't forget it.
